FROM THE DESK OF FR. DAN - June 11/12, 2022 On Pentecost I announced that Sr. Rosalie Hughes, SPC will be taking on a new leadership position in our parish, Director of “Mission & Synodality”. To help understand this position I have included some quotes below of the Holy Father that address Mission and Synodality. During his 2022 trip to Malta, Pope Francis said that the Church's mission is not about numbers, but evangelizing. In 2019 Pope Francis said that “Another feature of authentic mission is to facilitate, not to complicate. Mission does not add ‘unnecessary burdens’ on people who are already worn out, nor does it impose ‘demanding programs of formation, in order to enjoy what the Lord gives easily.’” The Holy Father said that “mission means reaching people ‘right where they are and just how they are’ - and the ‘sensus fidei’ of the people of God, and special care for the little ones and the poor, which is not optional.” In an address to the Roman Curia last year the Holy Father said that “The Synod wants to be an experience of feeling ourselves all members of a larger people, the holy and faithful People of God, and thus disciples who listen and, precisely by virtue of this listening, can also understand God’s will, which is always revealed in unpredictable ways. Yet it would be wrong to think that the Synod is an event meant for the Church, as something abstract and distant from us. Synodality is a ‘style’ to which we must be converted.” Sr. Rosalie’s ministry will be to help us in our mission as Catholics, youth and adults, and guide us in the style of Synodality. I am also grateful to have a religious sister on our staff again who will serve in a pastoral ministry here. We will have a formal event soon to welcome Sr. Rosalie to our parish staff. Please mark your calendars for our next Synodal listening session. It will take place on Monday, June 20 at 6:30 P.M. in our parish hall. Sr. Rosalie will lead this session. This weekend we will continue the Care Clinic Baby Bottle Boomerang Drive. Bottles are available in the back of church and by the entrances. They can be returned to the labeled plastic bin in the back of the church the next weekend. Have a blessed week, Fr. Dan
